Greta + Scott’s Wedding at Crested Hen Farms

I am so excited to share Greta + Scott’s wedding, that took place at one of my favorite Hudson Valley wedding venues ever, Crested Hen Farms. Their wedding took place on a rainy day in September. Crested Hen holds such a special place in my heart, because I had the opportunity to photograph the first wedding to ever take place there, the wedding of the granddaughter of the former owner of the farm. Frank, who is the current owner of the farm, happens to be one of the kindest people you could ever meet, who not only loves animals, but treats them wonderfully - from his sphinx cats, to his golden retriever farm dogs, and of course - his hens. Being a wedding photographer in the Hudson Valley really has its perks as such a nature lover, and Crested Hen Farms is basically the visual and physical representation of the beauty of this area.

Greta and Scott are truly some of my favorite humans I have ever had the honor to photograph. Laurel would 100% agree with me on this one. Their September wedding happened to be an insanely rainy day, and they took it all in stride. They were able to focus on the fact that this day represented their marriage and love, and not stress about the fact that their ceremony was now going to take place under a tent. They are both insanely intelligent, kind, funny, and FUN people. Greta just so happens to have figure skating skills, and this was SO obvious during their first dance when she completely killed her spins, rocking her mud stained wedding dress. We had such a blast adventuring around the property while taking their portraits, and are so thankful they were down to take their wedding photos in the rain with a good old clear umbrella. Some of my favorite photographs from their wedding are ones that you can see the rain drops, along with the joy simply radiating from their faces.

Their smiles and laughter were contagious and I am so so so grateful that they chose me to be their photographer. Continue reading for some insight into their relationship, wedding planning, and favorite memories of the day in their own words…

How did you meet?

We met on the apps in classic New York City fashion and had our first date at a bustling East Village bar. We only went up from there and got engaged post-pandemic at a beautiful villa in Tuscany. Greta was completely surprised and accidentally did everything she could to make us late for Scott's planned engagement time!

How did you decide to get married at Crested Hen Farms?

We decided that we wanted to get married closer to nature in the Hudson Valley where we had travelled many times for rock climbing, hiking and camping. We chose Crested Hen Farms after meeting with the owner Frank, who is kind and cheerful, and seeing all of the charm of the venue. We wanted to have a close-knit fall wedding with good music, good food and a lot of personal details, which all of our vendors helped contribute to. The best part was having Caitlinn and Laurel capture it all so perfectly!

Some of our favorite memories if we have to pick a few are:

  • Our first look, when the rain paused just as Greta was going to tap Scott on the shoulder

  • Listening to Scott's brother's officiant speech followed by our vows

  • Having everyone join the dance floor and keep it full all night long (in many parts thanks to the weather)
