Alyssa + Johnny’s Wedding at The Garrison

Alyssa and Johnny are the kind of couple that when you observe them, you think to yourself “Wow, they found it.”. And by “it” I mean a sweet, pure, unconditional love. They are two of the kindest souls and I absolutely adore them both. I loved their timeless details, which Alyssa (the bride), designed herself! Her design business is called Endlyss Invites.

On their wedding day at The Garrison it began to pour with rain right before their first look, so we pivoted and had an amazing time regardless of the weather. We did their first look outside but under cover, and did their portraits, wedding party, and family photographs inside the venue. Their wedding ceremony took place inside and the rain began to subside while they were saying their vows, with golden sunlight pouring through the windows just as they were saying “I do”, it was an unbelievable moment.

After their ceremony, with the rain newly cleared up, we ran outside to do more portraits and had the most majestic experience. With a slight wind making her veil perfectly dramatic, and the clouds showing off in the valley, we created so much magic. They then had time to join cocktail hour and had a raging party.

How did you meet?

“Johnny and I met at the ever so romantic Adams Fairacre Farms, where we both worked together as cashiers in high school.  Although we were only friends at first, I have to admit that I always had a bit of a crush on Johnny -- he was charming and he knew how to make everyone laugh.  We had such a great friend group that worked there and we all spent a lot of time hanging out together after work.  We were friends for a few years before Johnny asked me out on a date to Redline Diner and the movies. About 6 months later we began talking more and more and Johnny officially asked me to be his girlfriend on a day trip to Jones Beach.  We dated for over 5 years long distance while we finished college/grad school and began working our adult jobs.”

How did you get engaged?

“We planned a spur of the moment weekend trip to Cape May, NJ where we go often because my parents have a condo there. I didn't think much of it since it is a place we often escape to.  I needed a weekend to decompress but little did I know Johnny had other plans in mind.  He was acting a bit weird the whole trip but it really never crossed my mind that he was going to propose.  He planned to ask me to marry him during a sunrise picnic at the beach.... but I had other plans of sleeping in and going to Wawa. Long story short I basically sabotaged my own proposal but it ended up being PERFECT anyway.  Later that morning we were walking on the beach and it was super quiet and private.  One of my favorite things is looking for seashells.  As I was looking, I turned around and Johnny was on one knee :) 8 years in the making I was so excited to finally be a fiance!”

How did you decide to get married at The Garrison?

“When I stepped outside on the lawn of the Garrison and saw the view from under the arch where they hold the ceremony..... I just had to have it.  I was absolutely sold by the beautiful mountains on the Hudson River and all the greenery it had to offer.  The inside of the venue was thriving with natural light, which felt so fresh and elegant.”

What were your favorite memories from your wedding day?

“My favorite part of the day was the ceremony.  I remember feeling absolutely crippled with anxiety as I hate being the center of attention (which is inescapable as the bride), but it was the most special moment.  I remember that once I got up to the edge of the aisle and held onto Johnny's hands that I suddenly felt so calm and at ease.  It was an absolutely miserable, rainy day but as soon as we started reading the vows which we wrote, the sunlight beamed through the window on us which is something I will never forget.”
