Allie + Greg’s Intimate Winter Wedding at The Roundhouse Lounge

LADIES AND GENTLEPEOPLE, please allow me to introduce some of the most wonderful people you could ever meet…Allie and Greg. They had an intimate winter wedding in the Hudson Valley in the lounge of The Roundhouse in Beacon, NY. Their intimate wedding included less than 40 guests, a standing ceremony in front of the fireplace, with dinner and drinks to follow.

Now I am going to be a little honest here, I know Allie way more than I know Greg, but I know in the time I did have the honor to be in his presence, he is a wonderful human being, with a heart big enough to love Allie the way she deserves. Now onto Allie…the beautiful angel goddess fashionista and someone I consider a friend forever. She wore a drop dead gorgeous Maison Signore wedding dress from Kleinfeld Bridal, that quite literally made me jump up and down when I first saw it. Greg, smiling ear to ear the entire day, looked so handsome in his blue suit featuring a charming whale tie clip, a small but meaningful detail that spoke to his personality.

Allie and I met back in 2004 when I was working for radio stations in Poughkeepsie, I had just graduated high school and was attending college for photography. Allie was a student at Marist College and became an intern at the radio stations (fast forward and they hired her because she was so apparently wonderful and brilliant). Allie is the kind of person who lights up a room when she walks in, with her huge smile and her contagious laugh, anyone who gets to meet her, should be honored to be in her presence. She also has the best taste in fashion. She is quite literally a stylist (Styled by Allie McKenna) and you should hire her.

Okay now back to their wedding…

There’s something undeniably romantic about a rainy winter wedding, especially when it unfolds in a place as warm and inviting as The Roundhouse in Beacon, NY. As the photographer, I had the privilege of capturing a day that felt like stepping into a scene from a timeless love story—where the cold winter rain made it even more meaningful to embrace the warmth of the fireplace, that helped create the cozy intimacy they were hoping to have in the lounge.

The lounge, with its industrial textures and moody lighting, became the perfect haven for this March celebration. Edison lights hung above the lounge bar, casting a golden hue over the room, while the crackling fireplace added a layer of warmth that made the entire space feel like home. After we took photos in the rain outside The Roundhouse, and then portraits in the lounge, their closest friends and family began to arrive for their ceremony. Guests huddled together, sipping signature cocktails, while they watched their favorite people vow forever to each other in front of the fireplace.

The evening was full of laughter during their vows, and then later when their friends shared heartfelt speeches and toasted to the couple. I will always say intimate weddings are the best, and this rainy winter wedding at The Roundhouse was more than just an event—it was a story, beautifully written in the glow of Edison lights and the warmth of a crackling fire.

- How you met

We matched on Bumble literally days before Covid lockdown in March 2020.  We connected there, and spent the 3 months of lockdown going on 1-2 zoom dates a week; we drank wine together, binge watched shows together, got to know each other together, met each others’ friend groups, all virtual!  Once lockdown lifted on June 1st, 2020, we met that very day, outdoors in a park in Brooklyn, and we were both excited to learn that our online connection translated IRL.  We just escaped the forecasted rain on our first meeting, but it did rain on our second date outdoors for Covid safety in the same area.

- How you got engaged

We had talked about getting married, and even picked out rings together (we’re practical folk) before Greg popped the question.  He did so by hiding the fact that the ring had arrived, texting his and Allie’s friends secretly, and arranging a surprise meetup in the very park where they first met in-person in June 2020.  It was raining the morning of, but cleared up just in time for the big proposal, and with our closest friends there to document and celebrate, it turned into an impromptu, joy-filled (wet) picnic.

- How you decided to have a small wedding, why you chose The Roundhouse lounge, and any other wedding planning/vendor decisions you made and would like to share

Allie attended the very small wedding of a close family member in 2013 and always from that moment on knew she wanted a small wedding. Since Greg is an introvert, he was immediately on board.  And so in 2024, with just our closest friends and family;  small and intimate was just our vibe and how we wanted to feel on our big day.  We had gone on a very special date at the Roundhouse earlier in our relationship, and we both loved Beacon.  We we thought of the side lounge and learned it was available, it immediately felt like the right choice; the fireplace, the bar, the cozy decor and the amazing food all matched what we were looking for, and the venue was more than willing to put up guests in their hotel room suites as well.  All cake and flower purchases were local to the Beacon area, and Allie’s hair and makeup was done by an artist that she had met years before in a Beacon coffee shop; they bonded over both having pink laptops.

- Your favorite memories from the day, and anything else you wish to include.

It was raining once again (do you sense a theme?) and we took it as a good omen.  The rain also led to some of our favorite photos by Caitlinn under a clear umbrella, with both of us making our way to the Roundhouse in the rain.  Our officiant was almost cooked by the fireplace, but we all made it through in one piece (if slightly charred).  Everyone was laughing and drinking and all our friends and family meeting and laughing filled our hearts with joy even beyond how happy we were to be finally tying the knot.
